"Lys" Agiorgitiko 2020, Vlassides
Named after Lys, the lion of ancient Greece and the enduring symbol of Nemea, this wine pays homage to the noble red variety Agiorgitiko. Although native to the mountainous vineyards of Nemea, Agiorgitiko finds an exceptional second home in Koilani, where similar altitude, soils, and climate allow the grape to express its full character. From this terroir, Vlassides Winery has crafted a red wine of strength, depth, and poise—robust and charismatic, like the lion itself.
Winemaking & Maturation
Lys is matured for 12 months in oak barrels, followed by three years of bottle ageing, allowing its structure to soften while developing complexity and harmony.
TASTING NOTESIn the glass, Lys shows a deep ruby colour with garnet hints. The nose is expressive and layered, revealing black cherry and ripe dark berries, intertwined with tobacco, sweet spices, and oak-derived notes of vanilla, nutmeg, and clove. Subtle earthy undertones reflect the Kilani vineyard terroir.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and richly textured, with firm yet balanced tannins supporting its concentrated fruit. Spicy nuances and gentle oak frame the mid-palate, leading to a long, warm, and savory finish with lingering spice and depth.
